Disneyana Terms and Fun Information

A good starting point for those new to the hobby! Common terms you need to know as a collector to better communicate with others! Here we try to give you the basics. There are many more sites on the internet that do better justice than I ever could to Disney collectibles. But dive right in and use this site as a starting point!

Popular Disney collectibles (also called Disneyana) include magnets, figurines, animation cells, dolls, toys, cast member exclusives, snow globes, posters, buttons and on and on!  But before getting into all that learn these key terms and abbreviations!

Cast Members:  These are the employees that work at the Theme Parks or work for Disney.

Guests:  That is what you and I are called when we visit the Parks.  It is a much more friendlier term than "customer" or "client"!

Fab 5:  The five "main" characters include Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto!

Walt Disney Productions:  This is the former name of The Walt Disney Company, which it held from 1929 to 1986.

Making A Mickey Mouse Head:

  1. Hold down the ALT key (it's to the left of the space bar)
    Type in the numbers 1 6 7
    You should get this: š
  2. Now make a lower case "O"
    You should get this: o
  3. And now repeat step 1 for the right ear
    You should get this: š
  4. Put together you have Mickey's Head with ears!: šoš

Common abbreviations used follow:

Theme Parks:
AK or DAK - Disney's Animal Kingdom
MGM - also MGM Disney, but the MGM is for Metro Goldwynn Mayer
EPCOT - Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow
MK - Magic Kingdom
WDW - Walt Disney World which include all the four Parks mentioned above

CM - Cast Member (defined above)

LBV - Lake Buena Vista.  In actuality this is where Disney World "is" since the state of Florida allowed the Disney Company to set up it's own city!

PI - Pleasure Island, which is an entertainment facility in Downtown Disney.

WDI - Walt Disney Imagineer.  Creators/Artists that make the pixie dust!
