Planet Hollywood Facts and Trivia

Twice down but not knocked out yet!  Get the scoop here on Planet Hollywood collectibles.  Pins and Shot Glasses are the hottest collectables, but there are some pretty cool magnets available also.  First though, let's learn a little bit more about the company.  That makes collecting Planet Hollywood memorabilia even more meaningful.

Robert Earl was one of the founders and is current CEO of Planet Hollywood.  He was instrumental in Hard Rock Cafe's tremendous growth in the 1980's.  Thus are the theme restaurant similarities between the two.  While Hard Rock Cafe is about music, Planet Hollywood is about movies!  So if you collect Hard Rock Cafe items, why not also start a collection of Planet Hollywood items!

The idea was to offer a dining experience with all the glitz of Hollywood.  To promote this concept many Hollywood starts were recruited and offered stock incentives in the restaurant.  Hollywood stars as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Cruise, Whoopi Goldberg, and Demi Moore to name a few were involved with PH at one time or another.  Special pins or magnet were also produced for Arnold, Sylvester, Whoopi and Demi.  Planet Hollywood items compliment Hollywood Memorabilia collections!

Planet Hollywood exploded from its first Cafe opening in New York City on October 22, 1991.  Before being reduced to the current sites listed below Planet Hollywood at one point totaled 87 restaurants.  This was all done in roughly six years!  And this list is just talking about the PH brand.  The company also branched out into the Official All Star Cafe (a Sports Theme concept), and Cool Planet (Ice Cream!) brands.  There also was Sound Republic, a business that I think involved the recording industry.
